Colombia needs to make an effort on improving competitiveness

  1. Colombia can be, 25 years from now, in the upper end of the medium-income countries, as Portugal or Korea are today. In order to do so, Colombias income per capita needs to grow at an average rate of 8.5% per year. Other countries have been successful in doing so.

  2. Twenty-five years ago, Colombia had an income per capita close to that of Chile, Singapore or Korea. Nowadays, we are behind. Although our economy has recently experienced a healthy performance, if we just return to a historic trend, our next generation will have per capita income below India or China.
